Daiganji
1-minute walk
One of the three most prominent Buddhist Temples in Japan dedicated to the goddess Benzaiten, along with Enoshima Shrine and Hōgonji Temple. Buddha Statues dating back to the Kamakura Period (1185-1333CE) are on display, and the temple administered Itsukushima Shrine until the beginning of the Meiji Era (1868).

The most prominent attraction on Miyajima and famous for its ‘floating’ Torii Gate, enjoy the view of the shrine from all angles and at all times of the day.

Itsukushima Shrine Treasure Hall

As the name implies, treasures from Itsukushima Shrine are displayed, including items belonging to the Taira Family and artifacts from the Heian Period (794-1185CE).

Nishi-no-Matsubara

Miyajima History and Folklore Museum

Once the estate of a prominent Edo-Period Merchant, the building has since been transformed into a museum to tell the history of Miyajima and its people. Within the museum is a beautiful courtyard.

Miyajima ‘Kitaōji Rosanjin’ Gallery

Active during the Meiji and Showa Eras, Kitaōji Rosanjin was a prominent artist who specialized in pottery. This gallery displays approximately 600 of his works.
